In this never ending winter, we live for the weekends that we get to spend time together. This past weekend was all about dance. From the Daddy Daughter Dance to Bailey’s first dance competition, In10sity, there was a lot of booty shaking. It was also a really busy week so I’ve had a hard time getting all the pictures uploaded. Luckily we’re all tucked in from this new round of snow so I was able to put something together. Enjoy!
Daddy Daughter Dance
There aren’t a lot of things that our girls like more than dancing and dressing up. So when we told them they were going to a dance with Daddy we were flooded with squeals and screams of delight. Last year Gigi and I treated Bailey to a new dress at one of the local consignment shops and this year we planned on doing the same. Of course the hubs mentioned we had plenty of dresses to choose from…clearly he doesn’t understand how girls operate yet. I had a budget in mind and while we were getting ready to head off on our hunt to find the perfect dress, Bailey told us that she wanted to wear her favorite red dress. Then Sienna chimed in “Me too”! Who are these girls? So we decided to switch it up and let the girls pick out a new necklace at one of our favorite second hand shops. They were thrilled and Mom saved money so it was a win-win!
They couldn’t wait to start getting ready and asked for the full beauty treatment. We started with manicures – Sienna is getting better at sitting still and they both had fun picking their color. Aurora Pink of course! Then we put curlers in Bailey’s hair and Sienna had to have a few too. They felt like such big girls and enjoyed watching an episode of Fancy Nancy while the curls set.
Sienna couldn’t wait to get dressed, so we did quick little pin backs for both girls so they could get in their pretty dresses. I typically don’t like matchy-matchy outfits but since they both fought over wearing Bailey’s big dress, the second I spotted one closer to Sienna’s size I had to snag it. They were both too big because they prefer floor length gowns, so I had to sew/pin them up so they fit better. They were both so happy and we were a little early so we decided on a quick photo shoot.
Bailey is so good posing for pictures when she is in the mood. She loves the camera and it definitely loves her. Since it was her second Daddy-Daughter Dance, she was an old pro and was ready to show her sister the ropes.
Sienna takes a different approach. She prefers the action setting because she can’t seem to sit still. She was up, she was down, she was rolling around all over the place. Luckily I was able to grab a few when she paused to take a breath. She was so excited to get dressed up with her big sis and spend the night dancing. She couldn’t wait to shake her booty and kept showing off her moves.
I was able to get a few of them together before Daddy showed up and I couldn’t decide my favorite so I thought I’d share them all!
Once Daddy got home from work things got pretty chaotic. They had to show him their dresses, do a few twirls, hurry him along to get ready and then we got to shoot a few more pics before they flew out the door.
They got to the dance and immediately found the princesses and Sienna was enamored. After a few photos, they grabbed some food and started the dance party before the music began playing. They did a lot of booty shaking, running back and forth, twirling and joining a few conga lines around the dance floor. Daddy did get a few dances in but spent most of the night watching the girls make best friends and live their best princess life. There wasn’t a lot of time to snap any photos or video of the event but here are a few of our favorites.
They were one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave, and Daddy had to practically drag them out of there. When they arrived home, I couldn’t wait to hear all about their magical evening but what I got was two passed out little girls.
The next day I was filled with stories of the friends they made, the princesses they danced with and all about the yummy candy they ate. Bailey was a little upset that Dad didn’t get a few of the little girl’s phone numbers so they could continue the party, but she got over it pretty quickly. Today they sent us the photos taken at the Dance and these photos are so sweet, my heart is about to burst.
Be still my heart!
In10sity Competition
Last weekend was also our first foray into the dance competition world. We’ve done the regular class recitals before but when Bailey joined Mini Company, she got involved with a few competitions. Last weekend it was In10sity, a regional 3-day dance competition. Our Company dancers had an extremely long weekend full of beautiful dances, luckily we only had one. We learned so much and were really proud of our little Mermaids. It wasn’t easy especially since the last 3 rehearsals were cancelled because of the ice and snow, but they got up on stage and wiggled their little tails off.
We are so thankful for all of the dancers, the other Moms and Dads and the entire group of wonderful teachers and coaches that have opened their arms and welcomed us into this special group. It was so sweet seeing all of the other dancers and coaches cheering the girls on, encouraging the girls before they were on stage and opening themselves up to these little dancers. To the other Mermaid and Company Moms that helped us with hair, makeup, costumes and answering questions – thank you from a first time Dance Mom for guiding us through this and putting up with us. And of course a special thank you to Ms. Keli for not only being an amazing teacher and coach, but for creating the beautiful mermaid costumes and having so much patience and love with our girls. It’s become a family and we are so lucky to have you all. Here are some of my favorite photos of the competition:
Here are the photos they took from the stage and their performance.
Sienna’s Dance Debut
Sienna has always looked up to her big sister. Whether it’s clothes, toys or sassy attitude, she always wants to be like Bailey. For the past few months all Sienna talks about is dance. She loves to dress up in Bailey’s dance costumes and ballet shoes all day, every day. She talks about how Bailey “booty shakes” in class and would watch her practice videos on repeat. On Wednesday while we were putting Bailey’s dance shoes, Sienna decided she was ready to try out class. She just sat down with the other girls and waved me off. Ms. Keli told her that she could stay and I tiptoed out. I listened for cries or screams, but they never came. When it was time for the parent’s to come in I had both girls running to my arms, Sienna beaming and Ms. Keli said that she did so good. Looks like she’ll be joining the class for good!
We are so proud of our little nugget and to say she was excited was an understatement. And Bailey was glad she was in the class so no sibling rivalry yet. When it was time for the Mermaid Party practice I couldn’t rip Sienna away. Instead, she hopped right up and became an honorary mermaid. Daddy will be picking her up to take her home next week so the mermaids aren’t distracted.
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. I love making Valentines, spreading the love and spending the day with the ones I love most. This year I got to spend the morning at the gym with Gigi and Sienna, went to Bailey’s school party, had lunch with Gigi Pop Pop and Uncle Mat, delivered Valentine cookies to Dad’s work and then spent the rest of the day with the girls. I was a little under the weather so we are postponing our date night to this weekend, but all in all it was a day full of love.
We hope your week was filled with love and are staying safe and warm on this snow day!
