Hunter Paul – 2 Weeks Old

Posted on 3 m read

We are in the second week of our social distancing but it’s gone by pretty fast because we’ve been enjoying lots of baby snuggles. Hunter is 2 weeks old today and is already showing some personality. He giggles in his sleep and gives us a few smiles. He has been a pretty good sleeper so far and is definitely a great eater. We’ve been working on some tummy time and his neck is getting stronger everyday. He loves to snuggle up like a tree frog and everyone loves to cuddle with him.

The girls love Hunter so much, they are constantly asking to hold him, giving him forehead kisses and gushing over how much they love him. He just soaks up all the extra love. They are both really good with him and love to sing, read and tell him all about their days.

We spent as much time as we could outside on walks, playing soccer and just soaking up the sunshine while it was out. We are looking forward to more beautiful spring days which helps the quarantine go by much faster. Good news, I was able to go on a few walks without the big boot…I am using my ankle brace instead. I may have overdone it but it was worth it to get my stride back.

We had his weigh in at the end of last week and he gained 7 oz in 4 days, surpassing his birth weight, so our pediatrician said everything was really good. It was a little nerve racking taking him in to the office for the visit with everything going on but luckily they were doing well visits at a separate time than sick visits and we kept him in our wrap while we were waiting – baby wearing for the win! I’ve definitely been all over the board with my emotions over the whole COVID-19 pandemic. I think a lot of that stems from the postpartum anxiety that all Mom’s face after coming home from the hospital along with the hormone roller coaster and sleep deprivation having a newborn brings. Being flooded with news (real and fake) only added to the anxiety at first, but then a wise woman- my Mom and my super supportive husband let me cry it out and we decided to be proactive and get informed. I read the entire CDC website dedicated to COVID-19 and we became very thorough with our hand washing, disinfecting and social distancing. We also made a plan for when Brian goes back to work so that we are prepared to face whatever comes our way. Taking it one day at a time and finding and celebrating the good each day has made us more thankful for what we have and has made our family even stronger.

We started doing a little home school each day to give Bailey a bit of normalcy. We’ve made it a family affair and Sienna has really enjoyed the lessons too. So far we’ve learned about rabbits, plants, baby animals and the moon. Thanks to Scholastic online, they’ve got easy plans for pre-K and Kindergarten and we’ve added fun activities to help get both girls engaged. We aren’t stressing a schedule right now and both girls are very curious so it has been working out really well. We also do a lot of playtime, art and activity to get the girls moving.

We hope you and your family are doing well. We want to extend a special thanks to Jessica and all of the healthcare workers, emergency responders and all of those working so hard right now. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. And to end on a sweet note, here’s a sneak preview of our newborn photo session with the amazingly talented (and patient) Kim Joyce Photography. We can’t wait to see the rest!

Hunter Paul – 1 Week Old

Posted on 2 m read

This past week has certainly been an eventful one. In a world full of uncertainty we are very fortunate to have each other and our new baby Hunter. Hunter is a week old today and is such a sweet addition to our family. He is very chill and laid back so far and has definitely been our bright spot this week.

The girls are absolutely in love with him and enjoy reading and singing to him. We’ve gotten outside a few times when the rain has let up for some puddle jumping and walks. I’m still in a boot so the walks have been a little rough but Hunter loves being snuggled in the Solly wrap. He also loves to eat! His latch has been great and we’ll see how much weight he has gained during our appointment tomorrow. Hunter also loves to look at himself in the mirror and taking selfies – which the girls think is hilarious.

Here are a few of our favorite photos from this past week:

Hello ladies
First Bath…he loved it!

There have been a lot of ups and downs this week. We are heartbroken along with Bailey that she will not be going back to school for the rest of the school year and I will admit that I am scared of what’s to come. However we are making a conscious effort to take everything one day at a time and to remind ourselves how fortunate we are to have one another. Sending you our love and prayers to you and your family!

Meet Hunter Paul Schorr

Posted on 3 m read

What do you get when you have Daylight Savings, a Full Moon, a Friday the 13th and a worldwide pandemic? For many it was a week of exhaustion and panic. For us, it was meeting the new love of our lives, Hunter Paul Schorr. Hunter was born on Wednesday, March 11th, 2020 at 4:12 pm and weighing in at 8 lbs 3 oz and measuring in at 20-1/2″. It was a long, very painful labor, thanks to a failed epidural and a bit of a scare at the end, but after only a few pushes our hearts were filled to the brim with love. As we heard the first cries, we knew our little family was complete.

Here is a sneak peek into Hunter’s first few days:

Once Hunter got cleaned up and we settled in a bit, it was time for him to meet his sisters. You could feel the excitement brimming as soon as they walked in and the look on their eyes as they first saw him was something we will always remember.

The best big sisters ever!

It was if Dad and I didn’t exist…all eyes were on Hunter and the first squabble about who would hold him first/longest began. They also welcomed Hunter into our family with a ton of glitter…the nurses got a kick out of all the glitter he had in his hair after they left.

Hunter also got to meet his Gigi & Pop Pop and Uncle Mat for the first time too! We are forever indebted to the three of them, especially Gigi for not only wrangling the girls while we were in the hospital but for all the hours and the help she put in with us. It’s not easy dealing with a super preggo lady in a boot and two wild girls, but she was a lifesaver!

We stayed two nights in the hospital to give us a chance to rest and spend some solo time with the little man before bringing him home to the circus. We missed the girls, but it was definitely nice to be waited on hand and foot for a few days! Plus we got to focus on every inch of our little man!

Bella Baby Photography stopped in on our last morning and we had the girls come up to take a few first photos. Here are some of our favorites:

Two very excited sisters

Daddy’s Little Mini

We are loving the photos from Bella Baby Photography. It was definitely a little chaotic with all five of us, but luckily Gigi was there to help wrangle the circus. Since everyone was dressed we tried taking a few more family photos, and after a few 1000 tries, we got a few keepers!

As much as we enjoyed our hospital stay, we were ready to come home. It did feel a little strange leaving the hospital during this COVID-19 pandemic, especially as it all unfolded during our stay, but we spoke to a lot of the doctors and nurses about what we needed to do to keep ourselves and others safe.

We got home to a door decorated with drawings from the girls and got to introduce Hunter to Tequila for the first time. He is looking forward to protecting another one!

We will share more of our adventures with Hunter over the next few weeks. We are definitely practicing social distancing right now and look forward to seeing more friends and family as the pandemic starts to slow. For now we are going to enjoy each day and pray that we all come out of this challenge with more love and respect for one another. We hope you and your family stay safe and surrounded with love.
